Ikarus Technologies is a technology company founded in 2018 in Kuwait by Jasem Mutlaq, an amateur astronomer and software developer. The company grew out of Mutlaq’s long-standing work in open-source astronomy software, including the INDI platform for controlling and connecting astronomical equipment.
Its best-known product, StellarMate, brings together INDI, KStars/Ekos and other open-source technologies into a dedicated platform for controlling and automating astrophotography setups. Rather than locking users into a proprietary hardware ecosystem, StellarMate is designed to work with equipment from a wide range of manufacturers.
Ikarus is therefore particularly well known for open integration, automation and remote control, helping amateur astrophotographers turn a collection of cameras, mounts, focusers and other devices into a unified imaging system. Its philosophy of using open standards and supporting a broad range of hardware makes it a natural choice for astronomers who value flexibility and freedom of system design.
