QHYCCD is a Chinese manufacturer of astronomical and scientific cameras, founded by Dr. Qiu Hongyun, a lifelong amateur astronomer and optical engineer with a PhD from Tsinghua University. While studying there, Qiu developed what became China’s first cooled CCD camera for astronomical imaging, initially building it himself to overcome the limitations of commercially available cameras. The first QHY cameras were produced in the early 2000s, and the company was formally established as Light Speed Vision in 2009.
QHY has remained strongly focused on high-performance imaging technology, developing cooled CCD and CMOS cameras for both amateur and professional astronomy. Its expertise in low-noise electronics, cooling and scientific-grade sensors has given the brand a particularly strong reputation among serious astrophotographers.
Today, QHYCCD occupies an interesting position between amateur and scientific imaging, supplying everything from advanced amateur cameras to instrumentation for major observatories and research projects. The brand is known for technical innovation, excellent sensor performance and engineering-led development.
