TEC

TEC (Telescope Engineering Company) is an American, family-run manufacturer of premium apochromatic refractors, founded in 1994 by Yuri Petrunin. The company began by importing specialist optics from Eastern Europe before establishing its own optical production in Golden, Colorado, in 1998, and developing its first production refractors in the early 2000s.

TEC’s reputation is built around exceptional optical quality and meticulous craftsmanship, with a particular focus on large-aperture apochromatic refractors using fluorite optics. The company produces relatively small numbers of telescopes and places great emphasis on individual testing and fine-tuning.

The result is a brand highly regarded by experienced visual astronomers and astrophotographers who value contrast, colour correction, mechanical quality and uncompromising optical performance. TEC telescopes are deliberately made rather than mass-produced, giving the brand an almost bespoke character.
