Houdini Telescopes is a Belgian company created by Robert Houdart, a long-time amateur astronomer and experienced deep-sky observer. Based in Leuven, Belgium, Houdini grew out of a practical problem encountered while observing with a very fast 1.1-metre f/3.6 Newtonian telescope: how to obtain a sharp, immersive wide-field view without relying on a separate, bulky coma corrector.
The result was the world’s first coma-correcting eyepiece, which integrates the coma correction directly into the optical design. This makes it possible to enjoy sharp, well-corrected wide fields in fast Newtonians while keeping the observing setup simple and compact.
The brand is a good example of astronomer-driven engineering: rather than developing a broad range of equipment, Houdini focuses on solving one important optical problem exceptionally well. Its eyepieces are highly prized by experienced Newtonian observers looking for wide, immersive fields, excellent edge correction and ease of use.
