Tele Vue is an American optical company founded in 1977 by Al Nagler, an optical designer and lifelong amateur astronomer. Before founding Tele Vue, Nagler worked on the visual simulators used to train Gemini and Apollo astronauts, an experience that inspired his ambition to bring the immersive “spacewalk” view to amateur astronomers.
Tele Vue’s breakthrough came with the Nagler eyepiece, introduced in 1980. Its exceptionally wide 82° apparent field of view, combined with sharpness across the field, was revolutionary at the time and established a new benchmark for premium astronomical eyepieces. Later innovations such as the Panoptic, Delos and 100° Ethos continued to push wide-field eyepiece design.
Today, Tele Vue is regarded as one of the world’s leading names in premium visual astronomy, with a reputation for outstanding optical performance, mechanical quality and meticulous attention to detail. Its eyepieces and apochromatic refractors are particularly prized by experienced observers who value the very best possible visual experience.
