Favoured by many serious astronomers as the sweet spot in Celestron’s EdgeHD range, the 9.25″ combines increased light-gathering power with exceptional optical correction in a surprisingly compact package. Whether your passion is high-resolution planetary imaging or deep-sky astrophotography, its versatile optical system is designed to deliver outstanding performance today while offering multiple upgrade paths as your interests evolve.
The Celestron EdgeHD 9.25″ Optical Tube Assembly builds upon the proven Schmidt-Cassegrain design by incorporating Celestron’s advanced EdgeHD optical system. Retaining the compact dimensions and long focal length that have made SCTs so popular, the EdgeHD introduces additional corrective optics within the baffle tube to produce a flat, coma-free image plane suitable for today’s high-resolution cameras.
Unlike a conventional Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, which exhibits field curvature towards the edges of the image, the EdgeHD design delivers consistently sharp stars across a much larger imaging field. This makes it equally at home as a premium visual instrument and a capable astrograph, allowing astrophotographers to make full use of modern DSLR, mirrorless and dedicated astronomy cameras without the edge distortion associated with traditional SCTs.
With its 235mm aperture, the EdgeHD 9.25″ gathers approximately 34% more light than the 8″ model, revealing fainter deep-sky objects and finer planetary detail while remaining considerably more portable than larger SCTs. Many experienced observers regard the 9.25″ as offering an excellent balance between aperture, weight and mount requirements, making it a particularly attractive option for those seeking serious performance without stepping up to the considerably heavier 11″ or 14″ models.
Its native focal length of 2350mm at f/10 provides the image scale needed for detailed lunar and planetary imaging, as well as smaller deep-sky targets such as galaxies, globular clusters and planetary nebulae. For astrophotographers wanting a wider field and faster imaging speed, the dedicated EdgeHD 0.7× focal reducer transforms the telescope into an approximately 1645mm f/7 imaging system while maintaining the corrected flat-field performance that defines the EdgeHD range. For even greater versatility, the optical tube is Fastar/HyperStar compatible, allowing the secondary mirror to be replaced with a compatible HyperStar lens assembly for ultra-fast imaging at around f/2.
The telescope also incorporates a number of mechanical refinements designed specifically for astrophotography. Flexible mirror clutches help minimise mirror movement during long imaging sessions, while rear-cell ventilation ports with integrated micro-mesh filters accelerate thermal equalisation without introducing dust into the optical tube. Together, these features help the telescope reach stable operating temperatures more quickly and maintain consistent optical performance throughout the night.
Celestron’s StarBright XLT optical coatings further enhance performance by increasing light transmission across the optical system, improving image brightness and contrast for both visual observation and imaging. Combined with the EdgeHD optical design, these coatings contribute to crisp, high-contrast views of everything from the Moon and planets to distant galaxies and nebulae.
The aluminium optical tube is supplied with a CGE (Losmandy-style) dovetail bar, providing a secure mounting interface for heavier equatorial mounts. Despite its substantial aperture, the optical tube remains compact enough to transport and store with relative ease, making it well suited to astronomers who regularly travel to darker observing locations.
Whether used as a premium visual telescope or the centrepiece of a sophisticated astrophotography system, the Celestron EdgeHD 9.25″ offers exceptional versatility, combining flat-field imaging performance with the flexibility to adapt to a wide variety of astronomical targets and observing styles.
