Interstellarum Deep Sky Atlas: Desk Edition

The interstellarum Deep Sky Atlas is a modern deep-sky atlas designed specifically with the practical observer in mind. Its innovative approach goes beyond simply plotting objects on a star chart: deep-sky targets are classified according to their expected visibility, allowing observers to quickly judge which objects are realistic targets for their telescope and observing conditions.

Four visibility classes distinguish objects visible with 4-, 8-, and 12-inch telescopes under moderately dark skies, as well as objects that are unlikely to be visible even with a 12-inch instrument. Different type weights, symbol sizes, shades, and colours make these classifications immediately apparent, helping observers choose suitable targets at a glance.

The atlas contains more than 200,000 stars down to magnitude 9.5 and covers the sky in detailed 2-hour right-ascension by 15-degree declination sections. It includes an extensive selection of deep-sky catalogues and objects, including Abell planetary nebulae, Hickson compact groups, Arp galaxies, Barnard dark nebulae, Palomar globular clusters, and numerous galaxy clusters and groups. Asterisms larger than 5 arcminutes are also included, along with filter recommendations for emission nebulae.

The full-colour charts are optimized for use under red observing light, with generous map areas extending to the edges of the pages.
