The Lunt LS60MT/B1200 is a premium 60 mm H-alpha solar telescope designed to reveal the dynamic structure and activity of the Sun in remarkable detail, with a larger blocking-filter aperture suited to solar imaging. Its internally pressure-tuned H-alpha system uses an individually verified 0.45 Å bandpass to bring prominences, filaments and active regions into view, while its modular design allows the telescope to become a conventional 70 mm f/6 ED refractor for night-time astronomy.
The Lunt LS60MT/B1200 is a premium modular H-alpha solar telescope designed to make the changing face of the Sun the centre of your observing. Its dedicated 60 mm H-alpha aperture and individually verified 0.45 Å bandpass are designed to reveal the fine structure of the solar chromosphere, including prominences, filaments and active regions that cannot be seen through a conventional white-light telescope.
At the heart of the LS60MT is an internally mounted, pressure-tuned H-alpha etalon. Lunt’s Doppler True tuning system uses barometric pressure adjustment to fine-tune the etalon to the H-alpha line, allowing the observer to optimise the view of changing solar features. The result is a purpose-built solar instrument that invites extended observation rather than simply a quick look at the Sun.
This version is equipped with the B1200 blocking filter, which has a 12 mm clear aperture. The larger aperture provides a larger illuminated field and is particularly useful for solar imaging, while also giving visual observers more flexibility with wider-field eyepieces. The B1200 remains an essential part of the H-alpha optical and safety system.
The telescope uses a professional-grade FLP51 ED doublet with a native 70 mm aperture and 420 mm focal length. Remove the H-alpha module and the LS60MT becomes a conventional 70 mm f/6 ED refractor, extending its use to the Moon, planets, double stars and a wide range of night-sky targets. The same optical tube can therefore serve as both a dedicated solar telescope and a versatile night-time refractor.
Focusing is handled by a 2-inch dual-speed rack-and-pinion focuser with 10:1 fine adjustment. The focuser is also compatible with the ZWO EAF for motorised focusing, making the LS60MT suitable for both visual observation and astrophotography.
For observers who want to explore an even narrower slice of the H-alpha spectrum, the LS60MT can accept an optional double-stack module. Lunt specifies a combined bandpass below 0.28 Å when the additional module is fitted, further increasing the telescope’s capability for detailed H-alpha observation.
The LS60MT/B1200 combines the compact 60 mm H-alpha aperture with a larger-field blocking filter, making it an especially versatile choice for observers who want both detailed visual solar observing and greater flexibility for solar imaging. When the Sun sets, removing the H-alpha module transforms it into a 70 mm ED refractor for conventional astronomical observing.
