The StellaLyra 8″ f/4 M-LRN-D is a fast, high-performance imaging Newtonian telescope designed specifically for deep-sky astrophotography.
The StellaLyra 8″ f/4 M-LRN-D is a dedicated astrograph designed to deliver fast, efficient deep-sky imaging performance in a lightweight and mechanically stable package. Featuring a 203 mm parabolic primary mirror and 800 mm focal length, the telescope provides an excellent balance between light-gathering capability and field coverage, making it highly suitable for a wide range of astrophotography targets.
With its fast f/4 focal ratio, the telescope is capable of collecting substantial amounts of light in relatively short exposure times. This allows astrophotographers to work more efficiently when imaging faint deep-sky objects and can be especially useful during shorter observing sessions or under less predictable sky conditions.
The 8-inch aperture provides noticeably greater light-gathering power than smaller imaging Newtonians, helping improve image brightness, contrast, and overall signal quality. Combined with the moderate 800 mm focal length, the telescope offers enough image scale for galaxies and smaller nebulae while still maintaining the wide-field advantages valued in deep-sky imaging.
To improve imaging stability, the optical tube is manufactured from carbon fibre rather than traditional metal. Carbon fibre is less affected by temperature fluctuations, helping minimise focus drift as ambient temperatures change throughout the night. This can reduce the need for constant focus adjustments during extended imaging sessions.
The telescope’s imaging-oriented design includes an oversized secondary mirror intended to provide improved illumination across modern DSLR and dedicated astronomy camera sensors. This helps minimise vignetting and improves field uniformity when imaging with larger sensors.
A robust 2″ dual-speed rack-and-pinion focuser allows for accurate fine-focus adjustments while offering the mechanical strength needed to support heavier imaging equipment. This is particularly important for astrophotography setups using cooled cameras, filter wheels, coma correctors, and guiding accessories.
The fully baffled carbon fibre tube is internally darkened to help suppress unwanted reflections and improve image contrast. CNC-machined mirror supports, tube rings, and dovetail hardware provide a rigid overall structure while keeping weight manageable for a wide variety of equatorial mounts.
Unlike Newtonian telescopes intended primarily for visual use, the StellaLyra 8″ f/4 M-LRN-D is configured specifically with astrophotography in mind. Its combination of fast optics, enhanced sensor illumination, stable carbon fibre construction, and imaging-focused mechanics makes it an excellent platform for capturing high-quality deep-sky images.
NOTE: For best astrophotography performance, a coma corrector such as the StellaLyra 2″ 4-element Photo-Visual Coma Corrector or Baader MPCC is recommended.
