Sky-Watcher Esprit 150EDX Apochromatic Telescope

The Sky-Watcher Esprit 150EDX is the largest model in the current Esprit EDX range and is designed primarily for demanding astrophotography, while remaining an excellent telescope for visual observation. Its 150mm three-element apochromatic objective incorporates one premium Japanese Ohara FPL-53 ED glass element, combined with Sky-Watcher’s MHTC multi-coating system. Sky-Watcher specifies light transmission approaching 99.5% at each air-to-glass surface, while the optical system is designed to deliver high contrast and minimal detectable colour fringing.

The 1050mm focal length and f/7 focal ratio provide a useful balance between aperture, image scale and imaging speed. The 150mm aperture gives the telescope substantial light-gathering capacity and resolving power for visual observation, making it highly capable on the Moon, planets, double stars and deep-sky objects.

For astrophotography, the 150EDX is equipped with a CNC-machined 3-inch dual-speed 11:1 hybrid rack-and-pinion linear power focuser. It has a high accessory load capacity and is designed to maintain zero image shift during focusing. The focuser itself can rotate independently, while a separate 360° rotatable adaptor on the drawtube provides additional control over camera orientation and image framing.

Sky-Watcher offers two dedicated imaging correctors. The optional 1.0× field flattener preserves the native 1050mm focal length and f/7 ratio while providing a 44mm corrected image circle, making it suitable for large imaging sensors.

The optional 0.77× reducer/flattener reduces the focal length from 1050mm to approximately 810mm and changes the focal ratio from f/7 to approximately f/5.4. Its corrected imaging circle is approximately 34mm, making it particularly well suited to APS-C-sized sensors while also being usable with full-frame cameras where appropriate.

The 150EDX has a retractable dew shield, a 2-inch diagonal connection, a finderscope mounting shoe and CNC-machined aluminium tube rings. The supplied 75mm dovetail mounting bar is Losmandy-style, and the accessory rail doubles as a carrying handle. The complete optical tube assembly is supplied in an aluminium carrying case.

No eyepiece, star diagonal or finderscope is included with the current EDX package.
