The Sky-Watcher Evostar 150EDX is a high-performance 150mm ED refractor built for observers and imagers who require exceptional resolution, contrast, and optical refinement. Its substantial aperture and long focal length make it a powerful instrument for exploring both the Solar System and deep-sky universe.
The Sky-Watcher Evostar 150EDX is the largest aperture model in the Evostar EDX refractor range, designed for astronomers who require exceptional optical performance combined with the reliability and versatility of a premium apochromatic refractor. With its generous 150mm aperture, 1200mm focal length, and f/8 focal ratio, it offers outstanding capability for both detailed visual observation and high-quality astrophotography.
The telescope features a high-quality ED doublet objective incorporating a premium low-dispersion glass element to significantly reduce chromatic aberration. This advanced optical design produces sharp, contrast-rich images with accurate colour reproduction, allowing observers to enjoy highly detailed views without distracting colour fringing around bright objects such as the Moon and planets.
The large 150mm aperture provides a substantial increase in light-gathering ability compared with smaller refractors, revealing finer details across a wide range of astronomical targets. The telescope excels at high-resolution lunar and planetary observation, where the combination of aperture and 1200mm focal length provides excellent image scale and resolving power. It is also highly capable for deep-sky observation, offering bright and detailed views of nebulae, galaxies, globular clusters, and double stars.
With its 1200mm focal length and f/8 focal ratio, the Evostar 150EDX provides a well-balanced optical configuration. The longer focal length is particularly beneficial for targets requiring increased image scale, while the moderate focal ratio maintains excellent contrast and manageable exposure times for astrophotography. For imaging applications, an optional matched 0.77x reducer/flattener can be used to provide a wider field of view and faster imaging configuration.
The Evostar 150EDX is equipped with a CNC-machined 3″ dual-speed rack and pinion focuser with 11:1 fine adjustment. This robust focuser provides smooth, precise focusing and is designed to support heavier astrophotography equipment while maintaining stability and accuracy. A built-in 360° rotatable adaptor allows easy camera framing adjustments without repositioning the telescope.
The telescope also features a retractable dew shield, which helps reduce stray light and protect the objective from moisture while making the optical tube more compact for storage and transport. Internal baffling within the aluminium optical tube further improves contrast by reducing unwanted internal reflections.
For mounting and transport, the Evostar 150EDX includes solid anodised aluminium tube rings, a top accessory rail that doubles as a practical carrying handle, and a 75mm dovetail mounting bar. These features provide a secure mounting solution suitable for heavier equatorial mounts while improving handling during setup.
Although highly suitable for astrophotography, the Evostar 150EDX is equally impressive as a premium visual telescope. Its large aperture, excellent optical correction, and long focal length make it a superb instrument for observers seeking detailed, high-contrast views of the Solar System and deep-sky universe.
Combining advanced ED optics, precision mechanics, and a powerful 150mm aperture, the Sky-Watcher Evostar 150EDX represents a high-performance refractor solution for experienced astronomers demanding exceptional performance for both imaging and visual observation.
