The StellaLyra 16″ f/4.5 Dobsonian is a large-aperture truss-tube reflector telescope built for observers who want outstanding deep-sky viewing performance combined with practical portability.
The StellaLyra 16″ f/4.5 Dobsonian is designed for serious visual observers seeking the immersive experience that only a large-aperture telescope can provide. With its substantial 406 mm parabolic primary mirror and fast f/4.5 optical system, this telescope delivers bright, detailed views of deep-sky objects while remaining more manageable than traditional solid-tube designs.
The large aperture dramatically increases light-gathering capability, allowing observers to explore faint galaxies, planetary nebulae, globular clusters, and delicate nebular structures with significantly greater detail and contrast. Under dark skies, the telescope can reveal subtle features and deep-space objects that are often beyond the reach of smaller instruments.
Its fast f/4.5 focal ratio provides a pleasing balance between image brightness, field of view, and overall telescope size. Wide-field observations of large nebulae and star fields are particularly impressive, while the telescope still retains enough focal length for detailed lunar and planetary observation when conditions allow.
To improve portability, the telescope uses a truss-tube framework rather than a traditional full-length optical tube. The collapsible design allows the telescope to separate into more compact sections for transport and storage, making a 16-inch aperture system far more practical to handle. The rigid truss structure also helps maintain optical alignment during use.
The optical system incorporates a precision parabolic primary mirror with enhanced reflective coatings to maximise brightness and image clarity. A durable protective overcoat helps preserve optical performance over time while resisting environmental wear.
An integrated cooling fan is fitted behind the primary mirror to assist with thermal equalisation. By helping the mirror adapt more quickly to outdoor temperatures, the system can improve image stability and reduce the thermal distortion that often affects large-aperture reflectors during setup.
Focusing is handled by a sturdy 2″ dual-speed Crayford focuser designed to provide smooth operation and accurate fine-focus adjustment. The 10:1 reduction control is especially useful when observing at higher magnifications, where precise focus becomes increasingly important.
The Dobsonian base is engineered for controlled and stable manual movement across both altitude and azimuth axes. Adjustable tension controls help maintain balance when changing eyepieces or accessories, while the smooth bearing system allows comfortable object tracking during observation sessions.
Included accessories such as the 8×50 right-angled finder scope and supplied eyepieces allow the telescope to be used immediately for a wide range of observing applications straight out of the box.
Built primarily for visual astronomy, the StellaLyra 16″ f/4.5 Dobsonian combines substantial aperture, transportable construction, and refined mechanical performance into a highly capable observing platform for experienced amateur astronomers.
