Sky-Watcher Esprit 120EDX Apochromatic Telescope

The Sky-Watcher Esprit 120EDX is a 120mm apochromatic triplet refractor developed primarily for astrophotography, while remaining a highly capable telescope for visual observation. The three-element objective includes one premium Ohara FPL-53 ED glass element and uses Sky-Watcher’s MHTC multi-coating system. The optical design is intended to provide strong colour correction, high contrast and sharp images across a wide range of targets.

With its 840mm focal length and f/7 focal ratio, the 120EDX provides more image scale than the smaller Esprit models while retaining a useful focal ratio for deep-sky imaging. The 120mm aperture also provides greater light-gathering capacity and resolving power for visual observation, making the telescope well suited to the Moon, planets, double stars and a wide range of deep-sky objects.

For astrophotography, the 120EDX uses a CNC-machined 3-inch indexed drawtube with a dual-speed 11:1 hybrid rack-and-pinion linear power focuser. The focuser is designed for high accessory loads and zero image shift. The focuser can rotate independently, while a separate 360° rotatable adaptor on the drawtube provides additional control over camera orientation and image framing.

Sky-Watcher offers two dedicated imaging correctors for the 120EDX. The optically matched field flattener is a 1.0× accessory, so it corrects field curvature without reducing the telescope’s focal length. A separate 0.77× reducer/flattener provides a shorter focal length of approximately 647mm and a faster focal ratio of approximately f/5.4.

The telescope has a retractable dew shield, a 2-inch diagonal connection, a finderscope mounting shoe and CNC-machined aluminium tube rings with an accessory rail that also functions as a carrying handle. A 75mm dovetail mounting bar and aluminium carrying case are supplied. No eyepiece, star diagonal or finderscope is included.
