The DWARFLAB DWARF 3 is a compact, fully automated smart telescope designed exclusively for astrophotography and digital observing using a smartphone or tablet. Its integrated imaging system automatically locates, tracks and photographs celestial objects, making deep-sky imaging accessible to beginners while offering advanced features for experienced users.
The DWARFLAB DWARF 3 is a dedicated smart telescope that replaces the traditional eyepiece with a fully digital imaging system, allowing users to explore and photograph the night sky using a compatible smartphone or tablet. Designed specifically for astrophotography, the telescope automatically locates celestial objects, tracks them accurately and builds detailed images through live stacking, making astronomical imaging far more approachable for users with little or no previous experience.
Its optical system features a 35mm apochromatic telephoto lens with extra-low dispersion (ED) glass. This optical design helps minimise chromatic aberration while delivering sharp, high-contrast images across the field of view. The relatively long 150mm focal length provides a narrower field of view than many wide-angle smart telescopes, making the DWARF 3 particularly well suited to smaller deep-sky objects such as galaxies, planetary nebulae and globular clusters, while also performing well for lunar imaging.
Image capture is handled by a Sony IMX678 STARVIS 2 CMOS sensor. The combination of modern low-noise sensor technology and automated image stacking allows the telescope to reveal faint astronomical detail that would be difficult to observe in a single exposure. The telescope performs image alignment, tracking and stacking automatically through the companion mobile app, reducing the complexity normally associated with astrophotography.
Unlike conventional telescopes, the DWARF 3 incorporates a dual-camera system. Alongside the primary telephoto imaging telescope is a wide-angle camera used for target positioning, landscape photography and panoramic imaging. This integrated approach improves object acquisition while adding flexibility for daytime photography and wide-field scenes.
To accommodate different observing conditions, the telescope includes integrated Visual, Astro and Dual-Band filters. These can be selected within the app to optimise imaging for different astronomical targets without requiring the user to install external filters or accessories.
The telescope features fully automated GoTo functionality and motorised tracking. After selecting an object within the app’s built-in sky catalogue, the DWARF 3 automatically slews to the target and continuously tracks it as the Earth rotates, allowing long imaging sessions without manual adjustment.
Designed with portability in mind, the DWARF 3 weighs approximately 1.35kg and incorporates a rechargeable internal battery together with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC connectivity. The compact design makes it well suited to travel, garden observing and remote dark-sky locations where quick setup is desirable.
As a dedicated smart telescope, the DWARF 3 is intended exclusively for digital observing and astrophotography. It does not include an eyepiece and cannot be used as a conventional visual telescope. Instead, all viewing, control and image capture take place through the DWARFLAB mobile app, providing a streamlined and highly automated imaging experience.
