The Vaonis Vespera 3 is a premium, fully automated smart telescope that combines advanced apochromatic optics, intelligent automation and a high-resolution imaging sensor into one compact system. Designed exclusively for astrophotography, it automatically locates, tracks and photographs celestial objects, allowing users to capture detailed images of the night sky using a smartphone or tablet.
The Vaonis Vespera 3 is a next-generation smart telescope developed to simplify astrophotography while delivering premium optical performance. Combining a high-quality apochromatic refractor, precision motorised mount, integrated astronomical camera and intelligent onboard image processing into a single portable instrument, Vespera 3 allows users to produce detailed astronomical images with very little setup or previous experience.
At its core is a 50mm apochromatic quadruplet refractor featuring lanthanum S-FPL52 glass and an integrated field corrector. This Petzval-inspired optical design produces a naturally flat imaging field, delivering sharp stars from the centre of the image to the corners while significantly reducing chromatic aberration and field curvature. With a focal length of 245mm and a fast f/4.9 focal ratio, the telescope is particularly well suited to wide-field astrophotography, capturing expansive nebulae, galaxies, star clusters and rich Milky Way star fields with excellent detail.
Image acquisition is handled by Sony’s IMX676 CMOS sensor, producing 8.3-megapixel images with excellent sensitivity and low noise characteristics. The telescope continuously captures and stacks exposures automatically, progressively revealing faint astronomical detail throughout an observing session. Native images are produced at 12.5 megapixels, while Vaonis’ CovalENS mosaic technology can automatically combine multiple fields into ultra-wide images of up to 50 megapixels without requiring manual stitching.
Using the Singularity app, users simply select an object from the built-in catalogue before the telescope automatically performs target acquisition, plate solving, centring and continuous tracking. Throughout the imaging session, live stacking and integrated image processing enhance detail while optional Sky Color adjustments allow images to be refined directly within the app without requiring third-party software.
The Vespera 3 also incorporates several practical improvements over previous generations, including precision optical baffling to suppress stray light, an integrated humidity and temperature sensor that automatically activates the anti-fog system when required, 115GB of internal storage and a rechargeable battery capable of powering imaging sessions for up to 11 hours. These features allow the telescope to operate reliably throughout an entire night’s observing, even under challenging environmental conditions.
Weighing approximately 5kg, the Vespera 3 remains highly portable despite its advanced capabilities. Integrated Wi-Fi provides direct communication with a compatible smartphone or tablet, allowing the telescope to be controlled wirelessly without additional hand controllers or cables.
As a dedicated smart telescope, the Vespera 3 is designed exclusively for digital astronomy and astrophotography. It does not include an eyepiece and cannot be used as a conventional visual telescope. All observing, image capture and telescope control are performed through the Vaonis Singularity app, providing an intuitive experience suitable for both beginners and experienced astrophotographers.
