Combining the low weight and thermal stability of a carbon fibre tube with a large 125mm ED objective, the StellaMira 125mm ED Doublet is a powerful all-round refractor for observers and astrophotographers who want premium performance without moving to a heavier triplet design.
The StellaMira 125mm ED Doublet f/7.8 Carbon Fibre Refractor is designed for astronomers who want the optical refinement of a high-quality apochromatic refractor combined with a lightweight and practical mechanical design. With its generous 125mm aperture, carefully chosen ED optical elements, and carbon fibre construction, it provides an excellent balance between visual performance, astrophotography capability, and portability.
The telescope uses an air-spaced doublet objective incorporating an ED glass element equivalent in performance to FPL-53 together with a Lanthanum element. This combination provides strong colour correction and high contrast, producing crisp views with natural colour rendition. Bright objects such as the Moon and planets benefit from excellent sharpness and reduced colour fringing, while deep-sky targets appear with strong contrast and clarity.
The 125mm aperture provides a significant increase in light gathering compared with smaller refractors, making the telescope particularly rewarding for observers who want more detail without moving to a much larger and heavier instrument. The increased resolving power is especially beneficial for lunar and planetary observation, while the longer focal length provides a useful image scale for smaller deep-sky objects.
At 975mm focal length and f/7.8, the StellaMira 125mm ED Doublet occupies a versatile position between wide-field imaging refractors and longer focal-length planetary instruments. It offers enough focal length for detailed imaging of galaxies, nebulae and star clusters while remaining practical for general astrophotography.
For astrophotographers, the telescope’s flexibility can be expanded further with the dedicated StellaMira 0.8× reducer/flattener. This accessory reduces the focal length to approximately 780mm and changes the system to around f/6.2, providing a wider field of view and improved imaging speed. This makes the telescope better suited to larger nebulae and extended deep-sky targets while maintaining a corrected imaging field suitable for APS-C sensors.
The carbon fibre optical tube is a major feature of this model. Compared with a conventional aluminium tube, carbon fibre reduces overall weight while offering improved resistance to temperature-related expansion and contraction. This helps maintain focus stability during long astrophotography sessions where ambient temperatures may change significantly.
Mechanical precision is provided by a robust 2.5″ dual-speed rack-and-pinion focuser with 1:10 fine-focus adjustment. This design provides smooth focusing control and sufficient rigidity for imaging equipment, while the integrated 360° Camera Angle Adjuster allows easy rotation of the camera orientation when framing targets.
The telescope is supplied with practical mounting and transport accessories, including CNC tube rings, a carry handle, Vixen-style dovetail mounting bar and a custom-designed Oklop carry case. Additional threaded mounting points on the dovetail, handle and tube rings provide flexibility for attaching accessories such as guidescopes and other imaging equipment.
Although highly capable for astrophotography, the StellaMira 125mm ED Doublet is equally suited to visual astronomy. The combination of large aperture, excellent contrast and a refined ED optical system makes it a superb choice for detailed observations of the Solar System and brighter deep-sky objects.
Offering a rare combination of aperture, portability, carbon fibre construction and imaging flexibility, the StellaMira 125mm ED Doublet f/7.8 is an excellent choice for astronomers seeking a high-performance refractor that can adapt to a wide range of observing and imaging goals.
